John and Marie Sterle

John and Marie Sterle have been full-time RV’ers since 1997. This is their eighth summer working at the Silver City KOA.

Originally from Wickenburg, Arizona, Marie grew up in the copper mining town of Morenci, AZ. John hails from Oneida, NY. He joined the Navy at 17 and retired after 22 years. As a Cryptologic Technician he was assigned to numerous duty stations in Japan, Spain (where he met Marie), Germany, Morocco, and Diego Garcia.

Following their retirement from the Navy, John & Marie settled in Silver City, NM. John received a BS degree from Western New Mexico University while working as a jailer for the Grant Co. Sheriff’s Dept. Marie worked at a day-care center and as a cake decorator for Safeway, Inc. In 1987 they moved to Deming, NM, where they lived for ten years. John worked for Chino Mines in the Controllers Dept. while Marie worked as a Med/Surg Ward Secretary at Mimbres Hospital.

In 1995 John left Phelps Dodge to attend the Swift Transportation driving school. John, Marie and their two cats traveled cross-country in an 18-wheeler for two years when they sold their home and joined the full-time RV crowd.

These days John and Marie spend their summers as workampers at the Silver City KOA. You’ll find Marie at the registration desk in the store checking in new arrivals, giving touring information and visiting with guests. In her spare time she works on a variety of arts and crafts. John enjoys gardening, photography, and bicycling. You’ll find John working everywhere and anywhere around the campground.
