Excellent Plus KOA. Very well operated. Jackie and Jim Blurton are friendly and most helpful. Spotless and clean. The Blurtons presence is felt and always accommodating to all. Fenced dog pen is wonderful! Will return. Highly recommended. Spent two weeks here.

"Billy the Kid" CabinThe "Billy the Kid" Cabin

A trip to Grant County takes your family into the heart of the Old West. Our 3 million acres of untamed wilderness show you what the West was like, and historic sites throughout the county highlight our vibrant past.

Part of our Wild West past includes the outlaw Billy the Kid, who was arrested here early in his criminal career—only to escape quickly from our jail. His mother, Catherine Antrim, is buried in Silver City and she, Billy and her family were Grant County residents.

A recreation of a cabin style typical to the region in the 1870s is on display at the Silver City - Grant County Chamber of Commerce office in historic downtown Silver City.

Although the cabin has picked up the name "The Billy the Kid Cabin," it is more accurately a representation of the cabin building styles used in the area in the latter half of the 19th Century.

The cabin has been outfitted with period furniture and fixtures, but it is actually a recent — and fascinating — addition to our community. Movie director Ron Howard donated the cabin to the area after filming his movie "The Missing" in New Mexico. Several Silver City residents — including local members of the Chihe'ne (Warm Springs Apache) tribe — were cast in the film, which was released in 2003.
