Petroglyphs
Petroglyphs can be found throughout the southwest. In arid locations they are often found near springs where the ancient people gathered. The petroglyphs pictured here where most likely created about 900 to 1250 AD by the people of the Mogollon Culture, in particular the Mimbres people and the Jornado Mongollon people.
The Mimbres were famous for their depiction of animals, birds and scenes of daily life. Their pottery and their rock art show a fine sense of observation and attention to details. There are several petroglyph locations that we can direct you to during your stay at the KOA.
Viewing them and the environments that they are found in will give you and appreciation and insight into the life of the people who came before.
